Abstract:
To more conveniently solve for the displacement of any section in a simply supported beam, this study adopts the concept of the displacement method. The simply supported beam is divided at the cros-section where displacement is to be calculated, transforming it into two statically indeterminate beams: one end fixed and the other simply supported. By utilizing the relationship of equal bending moments and equal shear forces, three approaches for establishing a system of binary equations for the angular displacement linear displacement of the target cross-section are proposed. Case studies demonstrate that the displacement method offers greater convenience than other methods in solving the displacement of arbitrary cross-sections in simply supported beams, particularly when the type and distribution of loads are complex, where its advantages become more pronouced.
