Abstract:
Introducing the relevant cases from the research of mechanics history into the material mechanics experimental courses is beneficial to improve the teaching effectiveness by stimulating learning interest of students and highlighting the practicality and coherence of mechanics knowledge. Mr. Lao Liang from the National University of Defense Technology is a well-known expert in the materials mechanics history in China. He authored the book "A History of Ancient Chinese Materials Mechanics", which includes detailed historical materials and modern analysis. For example, it was discovered that the ancient Chinese record on the proportional relationship between force and deformation (the law of elasticity) was about 1500 years earlier than Hooke's law. Moreover, the close connection between mechanics and engineering technology in Chinese history was deeply and comprehensively explored in Lao Liang's works, which organized and evaluated ancient Chinese scientific and technological achievements based on the material mechanics system. Therefore, it has significant reference value for the teaching of material mechanics courses. This work aims to explore the application of historical examples from Dr. Lao Liang's research as characteristic course cases to improve the teaching effect of the material mechanics experimental courses, creating the high-quality course.
