Abstract:
In order to improve the crashworthiness of the metal honeycomb structure, a circular arc curved hexagonal honeycomb structure was proposed. The explicit finite element model of the curved edge honeycomb is established. The failure behavior and energy absorption characteristics under the in-plane and out-plane impact load are investigated, and the influence of impact velocity on the energy absorption characteristics is analyzed. Results show that the curved edge honeycomb has better energy absorption performance than traditional honeycomb under out-plane impact load. Different failure behavior including X, V and I deformation shapes exhibits under in-plane loading. The I deformation shape is demonstrated with larger impact velocity. The energy absorption is an increasing function of the impact velocity.
