Abstract: The research achievements of the basic theory, methodology, software and applications inthe area of computational mechanics in China is briefly reviewed. Toward the next century, and basedon the present status of the researcher groups, the promotion from applicaitons etc.,the prospectsof computational mechanics development and some poible progresses in China are explored.
