Abstract: With the reform of college enrolment policy based on the specialty categories, the recruitment of students majored in mechanics becomes difficult, which implies the quality and quantity of students both decline. This is really harmful to the overall development of mechanics. In this paper, the problem is explored from three aspects, i.e. the current situation, the advantages of mechanics, and the recruitment practice. Some methods and suggestions are proposed to solve this problem according to our experiences in recent years.
