Abstract: The slope and displacement at a specific point on a simply supported beam are obtained by considering the displacements of the free ends of two cantilever beams. There cantilever beams are fixed at the specific point in question, and their free ends are subjected to the reaction forces from the supports of the simply supported beam. The validity of this method is proved by the unit-load method. The formulas derived are simple, and the method is straightforward to apply. It is applicable to general simply supported beams.
