ANALYSIS OF STRESSES AND DEFORMATIONS OF A COMPOUND AND ORTHOTROPIC SHAFT WITH APPLICATIONS

  • This paper derives the formulas for stressesand displacements in a compound and orthotropic shaft and analyzes thestresses and displacements in a compound shaft with two floor concreteliners and a mid-aerated plastic board. If the circumferential elasticmodulus is less than the radial elastic modulus of a shaft liner, themaximum shear stress and the radial displacement in an inner liner increaserapidly with the decrease of the circumferential elastic modulus. Consequently,if the shaft is designed based on isotropic calculation, there will besome safetyproblems. These conclusions have been proved by engineering applications andfield observations. The new design methods for the compound shaftare put forward. The reliable calculation formulas and the newconsolidation theory are obtained for designing a compound shaftbuilt with the freezing method.
