ESCAPING TIME FROM POTENTIAL WELLS OF OSCILLATORY SYSTEMS

  • The effect of negative damping is to force theamplitude to increase gradually. Eventually, the motion gets rid of thepotential well and cease to be periodic. The escaping time from thepotential well of quadratic nonlinear oscillator is obtained by using themultiple scales method. Approximate potential method is applied to overcomethe difficulty caused by nonlinearity. Numerical examples furthervalidate the present method.
