MECHANICAL PROBLEMS ON ELASTIC ROD MODEL OF DNA

The Kirchhoff theory of analogy between thestatics of a thin elastic rod and thedynamics of a rigid body about a fixed point is described in this paper. The application of thetheory in the molecular biology with the thin elastic rod as the mechanical model of DNA, andsome problems related to the analytical mechanics and the theory of stability are discussed.
