ELEMENT STIFFNESS MATRIX FOR CURVED BARS WITH SYMMETRIC VARIABLE CROSS-SECTION

  • in this paper, a new method of element analysis for curved bars with variable cross-section is proposed. The curved bar is taken as an element and by using the method of elastic centre to derive the general equation of the element stiffness matrix. The accurate equations of the element stiffness matrix are given when the cross-section of the bar vary according to cosine function and the centre line of the bar is circular, parabolic or elliptical. They can be used as a reference in the engineering design.
