SOME MERITS OF INTEGRATING THE HISTORY OF MECHANICS INTO ENGINEERING COURSES

  • Mechanics serves as a fundamental scientific foundation for many engineering disciplines and lies at the core of constructing knowledge systems across various fields of engineering. Appropriately integrating the history of mechanics into engineering courses can help the students grasp key concepts, understand the internal logic of the knowledge structure, and appreciate the patterns of scientific and technological development. This paper discusses several practical experiences of incorporating the history of mechanics into engineering education, drawing on specific examples from some undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering.
