TEACHING OF SMALL FORCE MEASUREMENTS IN EXPERIMENTAL MECHANICS

  • To address the limited coverage of small force measurements in the course of Experimental Mechanics, we propose a hierarchical and expanded teaching design. The approach begins with an introduction of atomic force microscopy in measuring small force, followed by the introduction of two alternative do-it-yourself methods based on unipolar capacitors and improved capillary structures. Recent high-impact research is cited as illustrative examples to underscore the effectiveness of these techniques. This extended teaching design aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of small force measurement methods and to equip them with the capability to develop practical, application-oriented solutions.
