FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF THE OPTIMAL POSITION OF TRANSVERSE OSTEOTOMY FOR CROWE IV DEVELOPMENTAL DYSPLASIA OF THE HIP IN TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY

  • In total hip arthroplasty (THA) for Crowe IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), most patients require osteotomy to ensure recovery. At present, the transverse osteotomy is the most widely used method, but the optimal height of osteotomy is still controversial. In this paper, a finite element model for a Crowe IV DDH patient was established, and the stress distribution and displacement in the model with different osteotomy heights under different loads were analyzed. The results show that the transverse osteotomy height of 0 cm below the lesser trochanter has best performance. Without affecting the placement and apposition of the prosthesis, it is recommended to use the osteotomy height of 0 cm during the operation.
