Abstract
The Navier–Stokes equation in fluid mechanics is a fundamental equation. George G. Stokes in England derived the equation by using three hypotheses from the method of continuum mechanics in 1845. However, the three hypotheses can be found in the work of Augustin L Cauchy in 1827 and 1828. The present manuscript provides some information on the concepts of the three hypotheses in the work of Cauchy.
