NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF MOSQUITO FASCICLE INSERTING INTO HUMAN SKIN

  • Mosquitoes can pierce their fascicle into humanskin with a micro-Newton force by using a natural ultimate painlessmicroneedle. Firstly the structure of the \it Aedes albopictus mosquitofascicle is obtainedusing a scanning electron microscope, and then the simulation model of themosquito fascicle tip is built based on the structure obtained from the SEMobservation. A numerical simulation is conducted to analyze the insertionprocess of the mosquito fascicle tip into a human skin using a nonlinearfinite element method based on ABAQUS. The mechanical properties ofdifferent skin layers are taken into account. The deformation and failure ofthe skin and the insertion force are discussed. A good agreement isobtained between the numerical results and the experimental measurements.
