CAVITY EXPANSION MODEL BASED ON THE GRIFFITH STRENGTH THEORY AND ITS APPLICATION

  • A theoretical analysis is carried out for concrete targetssubjected to impact of projectiles. According to the vastcomminution feature of concrete materials subjected toprojectiles high-velocity impact, the materials in the comminuted or plasticregion are assumed to obey the Griffith strength theory. A dynamiccavity expansion model is built for projectiles deeply penetrating into concretetargets. An analytical calculation formula is obtained.Predictions are in good agreement with test data.
