THE DISSEMINATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF RATIONAL MECHANICS IN CHINA

This paper presents a brief introduction to theobjective, characteristics and the disciplinary content of rationalmechanics, as well as its relationship with other disciplines, and its history of development. The activities of the Committee of RationalMechanics and Mathematical Methods in Mechanics are reviewed,especially, the academic activities organized by the Committee, the dissemination and development of Rational Mechanics inChina, in cluding the significant contributions made by ProfessorWei-Zang Chien in promoting the development of Rational Mechanics in China,as well as the achievements of Rational Mechanics accomplished in China.
