THE MISSION OF MECHANICS−AN INTERPRETATION OF TWO OUTLINES OF QIAN XUESEN'S SPEECHES

Qian Xuesen wrote two speech outlines when he was the director of the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This paper mainly analyzes Qian Xuesen's view of mechanics by studying his two speech outlines. His views of the mission of mechanics can be summarized as follows: the study of mechanics should adhere to the principles of technological science, the study of mechanics should establish a systematic and philosophical perspective, the mechanics research must comply with the strategic needs of the country. This article revisits Qian Xuesen's views of the mission of mechanics, inspiring current mechanics workers to make achievements in the new era.
