Abstract
With the advent of the digital-intelligence revolution, engineering systems become increasingly complex and involve highly interdisciplinary knowledges. The rapidly changed role of mechanics poses challenges for its higher education. Based on the knowledge structure and dynamic characteristics of the mechanics discipline, a new core curriculum aimed at integrating the four scientific paradigms (the “X-4 Paradigm”)—experimental, theoretical, computational, and data-driven—for mechanics educatee is proposed, which is intended to provide a baseline for the coming higher education reform.
