Abstract
Wood has a complex microstructure and special mechanical properties, and should occupy a place in the teaching of materials mechanics. Wood can also inspire students to comprehensively master the principles of materials mechanics. Therefore, the teacher conducted a teaching expansion of wooden beam bending experiment outside of class. After the teacher selects the type of wood and cross-sectional size, the students are asked to build wooden beams with appropriate spans, use items at hand to construct loading and measuring devices, and independently complete the experiment. Teachers evaluate the quality of experimental design based on independence, accuracy of results, and novelty of methods, and guide students to conduct experimental error analysis by combining basic assumptions of material mechanics and wood properties. Through this teaching expansion, the expected goal of improving students' knowledge structure and optimizing their abilities can be achieved.
