Abstract:
This paper presents nine five-character regulated poems composed during the teaching of continuum mechanics, entitled Continuum media, Tensors (two poems), Deformation (two poems), Conservation laws, Stress, Models, and The Navier-Stokes equation. The poems cover fundamental concepts and governing equations of continuum mechanics, as well as tensors—the essential language of continuum mechanics, and reflect the core philosophy underlying the formulation of mathematical models for continuum media, namely, the construction of a closed system of equations governing a set of macroscopic variables that describe the state of the medium. Each poem is accompanied by a brief explanatory note.
