    The calculation of wheel/rail threedimensional elasto-plastic contact stress is the basisfor the research on wheel/rail contact fatigue.     in this paper, based on the unifiedstrength theory, a plane strain axisymmetric problem under the state of the elasto-viscoplasticity wasanalyzed and a unified solution was obtained, fromwhich a set of solutions can be obtained based ondifferent strength theories from the Mohr-coulombstrength theory to the twin shear strength theory.The results in the references are only the special solutions.     On the basis of investigation on the influence of internal upset transition geometry on thestress concentration of a drill pipe, basic design requirements for a drill pipe with low stress concentration were proposed. Full size fatigue tests werecarried out to verify that analytically designed upsettaper geometry has a good performance.
