FLOWFIELD CALCULATION OF HOLLOW PROJECTILE USING IMPLICIT LU-SGS SCHEME BASED ON UNSTRUCTURED MESHES

  • The implicit LU-SGS scheme based on unstructured meshesis employed to solve three-dimensional Euler equations. The flow field of ahollow projectile is numerically simulated for different Mach number anddifferent attack angle. Complicated flow structure and its lift and dragcharacteristics are discussed. The numerical results indicate that the dragcoefficient of a hollow projectile is smaller by about 30 percent than that of a commonprojectile with the same diameter, and the correlationsbetween the drag and the lift coefficients of the hollow projectile and theattack angle are in agreement with those of the common projectile.The results are relevant to engineering designs.
