ANALYTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR RC BEAMS STRENGTHENED BY CFRPS

  • Based on the elastic theory and some assumptions of composite section, the reinforcedconcrete (RC) beam strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer sheets (CFRPs) isanalyzed, and the expression of unit-length adhesive interfacial shears and the differential calculusof axial force in the CFRPs are established. Then, the analytical solutions of the axial force in theCFRPs, the interfacial shear stress in the adhesive layer and thebending moment on the cross-section of RC beam are presented as generalforms. A case study shows that the stressconcentration at the end of beam may cause bending failure, which can beprevented by the measures proposed in thispaper.
