STUDY OF THE AXIAL CRUSHING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STIFFENED THIN-WALLED TUBES

To study the axial energy-absorption performance ofthin-walled tubes of energy absorbing elements in a vehicle body, thin-walled tubes with single and double hat and with stiffeners weredesigned. Then the quasi-axial compression tests were carried out. Testresults show that the energy-absorption performance of the thin-walledtubes is increased when the number of stiffeners is increased, but the quasi-axialsteady ability is decreased.
