THE MYSTERIES OF RETROGRADE ASTEROIDS

Abstract: The discovery of 2015 BZ509, the first asteroid trapped in the retrograde $1:1$ resonance with Jupiter, has raised a public passion for retrograde asteroids. This paper reviews the little-known retrograde asteroids in the Solar System and their origins, and provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the retrograde resonance problem associated with 2015 BZ509.
