MECHANICAL ANALYSIS ON THE COLLAPSE ACCIDENT OF BUS SHELTER CEILINGS AFTER SNOWSTORM 1)

In this paper, a force model for the ceiling is established by some simplification. Then, the force conditions of the pedestal column, the connecting tube and the ceiling are analyzed by considering the compression and bending deformations. It is shown that the connecting tube and the pedestal column are subjected to a large bending moment, which needs to be strengthened. Finally, the small size and insufficient strength of the connecting tube are shown to be the direct cause of the collapse accident. In addition, the design defects and the insufficient construction quality are also considered to be the fundamental reasons of this collapse. The research results can be used in the optimization design, the construction and safety management of the bus station, for avoiding the recurrence of such collapse accidents.
